Ever wonder why healthcare costs so much?

Well here's an example why. You are at work carrying a box. Slip and fall, scrape your hands and chin. Sprain your back. Instead of getting up to see if you are actually hurt and actually need attention, you lay there, your fellow employees call the ambulance. They actually start an IV and transport you to the hospital.
There, you meet a sarcastic brown doctor, who tries his best to keep the dripping sarcasm out of his voice (otherwise you might complain to the administration who cares more about the 'customer survey' results than the quality of medicine that your doctor practices) tells you to wash your scrapes with soap and water and take some ibuprofen for your back. You actually walk out of the hospital without any problem.
Ambulance company charge 500 bucks. Conscientous brown doctor who did not do any xrays because he didnt want to expose your healthy ovaries to unnecessary radiation, billed for the lowest charge possible for your little trip-after insurance company 'discount' 50-75 dollars.
Hospital charge for taking up a room in the ER that has to be staffed 24/7 along with all the support needed-charges you 1000 dollar 'facility charge'. You dont care. Your insurance only charges you 50 bucks copay.
Grand total 1600 bucks. For a couple of scrapes!!! I think that 'common sense is not common' is a gross understatement. I think it is an urban legend.
